One Other Thing

Almost forgot.  We’re here to praise Jeffrey Steingarten.  I used his recipes for granita this weekend and WOW.  I’d tried making it before with other recipes,  freezing in shallow pan, scraping periodically.  No.  Just, No.

This way is simple and, really, sublime.  On a hot day it is heavenly and on any other it’s just wonderful.  Simple.  Low cal, hydrating, vegan, all around good stuff.  Mix ingredients, put in a container, freeze, and serve.  I made lemon and strawberry.  The lemon? Dissolve sugar in water, zest lemons, juice lemons, mix, fits into a quart container nicely, square is perfect shape.  Freeze.  Enjoy.  Strawberry is pureed strawberries, some water and a bit of sugar and lemon juice.  This one I froze in a freezer bag, flat.  Wonderful.
